step 3
finding borough-wide crime data

The best way to gain quick and easy access to borough-wide crime statistics is to use the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Criminal Justice Indicators Page.

The New York City Police Department offers crime statistics at a variety of levels, broken down by precincts, borough, and city.

You can also access Infoshare, which provides access to an abundance of data -including crime statistics at many levels, including Borough, Police Precict, NYC Neighborhood, Community District, Census Tract and by political boundaries. This site is highly recommended and easy to use, but you do have to register. While you can sign up for a week free, the site requires a fee after that period.
