University Neighborhood Housing Program’s work on homeownership issues during the past eight years has moved from homebuyer education to homeownership preservation, research, and outreach. Our forum on The State of Homeownership in the Bronx will document the rise in sub-prime lending in the borough from 1998 to 2004 and identify neighborhoods with concentrations of lis pendens and foreclosure auctions. Are these neighborhoods adequately served by nonprofit resources? What are the limitations of the City’s 311 foreclosure prevention program? Our research also analyzes who the top 1-4 family lenders are, how successful their loss mitigation procedures are, and looks at real models for improving homeownership preservation. We will also discuss new opportunities for affordable homeownership in the Bronx through a pilot program with the City, nonprofits, and HUD.
Directions: The Metro North Fordham Road station is located just steps from campus. The D and 4 trains stop at Fordham Road, a 10 – 15 minute walk from campus.
