finding the right community district

Community districts usually include several neighborhoods:

The Department of City Planning has recently added an excellent set of maps of each of the city's 59 community districts. These maps include land use information as well as a demographic summary of the area. To view these community district maps click here. Once you've found your community district, check out the district profile, including demographic and zoning data and maps -- a great tool from city planning!

You can also find your community district using the community board index.

A great new report released by the Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy at NYU Law School, entitled State of New York City's Housing and Neighborhoods has excellent housing and demographic data and maps broken down by Community District as well as Sub-borough Area. The entire report is available for download but the file is enormous (19mb!), so if you don't have a high speed connection, be prepared to wait a while. Click here to download the report in .pdf format or click here to contact the center to order a hard copy. The data from the report will soon be available in an online interactive format, so stay tuned!
